A good exercise with a massaging effect is walking barefoot on a sandy beach, especially when the sand is warm. Walking in loose, dry sand exercises every single muscle of the foot as the foot adjusts to the uneven surface. Besides that, walking on sand expels almost twice the energy as walking on stairs or pavement. Have you ever tried running on dry sand? The energy it requires is huge! Certainly, a brisk walk along a beach would provide an excellent exercise. Thus, the benefits you will enjoy from walking barefoot on sand not only includes a healthful exercise routine, an increased cardiac output, a decreased blood pressures but also the bones and muscles are strengthened and the wear and tear on foot and legs joints are lessened. For those with mild arthritis, it reduces the pain caused by exercise.
One thing i never liked about brisk walking is the heavy toll it can exact on the feet like corns, blisters, and even more serious foot injuries. Not withstanding, walking on the sand can be an exciting form of exercise. If you haven't tried it before, I encourage you to do so this summer. You may have to go with friends or family or probably go alone.
Caution: make sure that the sand you walk on with your bare feet is quite clean and free of sharp objects. If you have any serious health problems, i advice you seek your doctor's opinion first, before taking any new form of exercise. You can as well start your brisk walking at a slow or moderate pace, and then increase your speed gradually over a period of weeks. This will likely lead to a safer and more enjoyable exercise routine for you.
A barefoot walk in the sand is more than fun; it might just be the beginning of steps to better health for you and your feet. And it's possible you might even discover some shells, small fish, little hermit crabs, all kinds of birds and insects on the beach or the shallow water. So enjoy your walk and have fun!
